| The program uses trained counselors, career guidance experts,
and local union officials. The students will be offered a career path that suits them, and that will enable them
to gain self-respect and earn a living. In other words, they will become responsible and productive citizens. The
Vineyard Program will teach students life management skills, such as taking care of their home, farming, cooking,
baking, doing laundry, and how to get along with others. The Vineyard site will have cows for milk, chickens for
eggs, goats, ducks and a beautiful student-managed garden for fresh vegetables. Career learning at The Vineyard
will be conducted by educators from state and local colleges. Correspondence classes for high-school and college
credit will be administered, including on-line courses. With a completion certificate in hand, Family Services
agencies will help us find each student a mentor and sponsor. Students will receive pay for their work, and their
monies will be kept in escrow for them until they leave the program. When a sponsor is found for them in their
new community, each student will receive a bus ticket, clothes, and of course all the money that was held for them
in escrow. |
